JUNIOR BROWN RETURNS TO CAVE CREEK

Just got home from seeing Junior tear it up tonite. 3rd time that I get to see him make mince-meat out of his "guit-steel" . This time he was at the world famous Buffalo Chip Saloon. Always a good show. An EXTREMELY underated guitarist for sure!

Well it’s been one year to the day that I lost my Dad to cancer. Although truth being, it wasn’t the cancer that took him but complications post surgery. He had a saying that “Doctors bury their mistakes”. That may have applied here. But in any event, at 83yrs old, he did what he wanted to do up to the end!

Somewhat of a private man about his past, I’ve learned more about him after his passing while sifting through an old army locker he kept locked up for many years. Tons of photos & memorabilia. Wish I could have talked to him about it. Nuts!

Clowning around at a carnival (?) age 23

Speaking of nuts, my wife learned that the “nut” doesn’t fall from the tree. Numerous long distance conversations the two had, gave her insight on my running gears.

Distant memories remind me of riding in the many cars he owned listening to (state of the art—back then!) various 8-track tapes. One artist in particular we both enjoyed was Johnny Cash. Being weened on the Man in Black is not a bad thing.

In one of his many cars (no that's not me playing the part as the toddler)

R.I.P.

You are greatly missed…..

Found this little bugger hiding near my garage yesterday. Fairly docile until I provoked him!

Remained coiled all day, left in the early evening.

SINCE BLOGGER IS BEING A ROYAL F?CK..... NO IMAGE

Anyway.... the Historic punk club in NYC, CBGBs is officially closing tonite. Seems the city doesn't want to preserve a piece of rock history. But wait... didn't they save the Apollo?? Hmmmm.... must be a white thang...

I visited NYC in '88 and hit CBGBs ... but in the afternoon... so no stories of great bands...

Here's a taste of some of the acts that started there:

THE KILLER STILL ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jerry Lee Lewis was one of the best artists to emerge from the legendary SUN studios in Memphis. However, he never really got as much attention as that other artist who sold out to movies. Even tho Jerry kept recording once he left SUN, nothing would compare to the quality of him POUNDING them 88s. I'm still a bit mad at the prick for not showing up for a show last summer in Camp Verde. Yep, we stood in the heat & he never showed. Oh well... I guess that's rock n roll!!

I got to listen to a few tracks of his new cd today. Here's proof that a couple of geezers still can make noise:

Train I ride .....................

I Highly recommend the Verde Canyon Railroad trip to anyone in or visiting AZ! Nice sights, cool ride & friendly staff. Sadly, most passengers were bussed in seniors. I guess the "young-ins" don't care to experience fine nature. Still a great day especially weather-wise (even had some rain while the sun was shining).

The Velvet Underground

Is one of my favorite '60s bands. Andy Warhol helped with the formation & promotion of the band in NYC. Many later bands site the Velvets as influential. I have seen Lou Reed live several times & John Cale once. The Velvets did reunite briefly for a short tour in the early '90s but ended early to (I believe) problems amongst themselves.

Here's a couple from the V.U. LP which came out in '87 & consisted of some previously unreleased tracks.

Just started working on the HELLOWEEN IV mix-disc !!! Due to major issues last season, I was unable to complete & distribute the annual treat. With that, I have lots of goodies collected through-out the 2-year time frame since last edition. My FAVORITE holiday !!

No Halloween would be complete without the sounds of at least one CRAMPS tune. Another HUGE fav of mine, as this band opened my ears to the odd, demented & rare '50s/60s gems. They actually took some of these lesser known tunes & added their psycho-twist on them! During my college days, I got to meet and become friends with Lux's brother Mike. He played in a band called The Walking Clampetts that played the Northeast Ohio circuit. One night, at a sleazy punk rock bar, on the bad side of town, in the cold winter-time near Christmas..... Lux and Poison Ivy showed up to see The Clampetts... stood right next to them...rockin' thru the nite!
